Camp Integrations 2008 – What A Success!

2008 was the fourth year in a row that Therapeeds, in collaboration with Melissa Tovin PhD, PT, held Camp Integrations, which offers a summer camp experience to kids with special needs. The camp has been growing dramatically since its inception – from just 3 kids attending in 2005, to 36 this year.  Thanks to all of the volunteers who dedicated their time, the camp was a great success this year and it made a huge impact on all of the kids.

One camp volunteer and parent shared her camp experience: “Because the therapist to child ratio is 1:1, we really get a chance to bond with our children and tailor treatments specifically for them. What I learned at camp is refreshing, and has given me lots of new ideas for my treatments. Not to mention that my son who attended the camp is asking to come back next year and even began planning sleepovers with the other kids.”- Doris Dalmau, OT.

In order to meet the growing demands for the specialized services offered at the camp, the camp organizers sought out and received a grant in the form of a reduction in space rental cost for Robbins Lodge from the City of Davie, FL, a private $1,500 grant and a $10,000 research grant from Nova Southeastern University. “The grants come as a huge relief, since many families travel from out of state and out of the country to attend and must cover transportation, meals and hotel costs for the entire week of treatment,” states Julia.

For more details about the camp, to volunteer for future camp events and to see pictures from this year’s activities, please visit the Camp Integrations web site.
