Practical Sense in SI
Part 1

"Putting the Pieces Together"

An intermediate level video class that provides practical applications on specific evaluation and treatment techniques of modulation dysfunction for a varied client population. Very useful and practical information for clinicians working with autistic spectrum disorders (autism,PDD,Asperger’s, Retts), ADD/ADHD and the lower functioning clients that are difficult to reach because of behavioral problems and overt sensory processing deficits.

Who Should Take This Class?

Occupational and Physical Therapists who are interested in learning PRACTICAL, hands-on, specific techniques focusing on the recognition and treatment of sensory modulation disorders. These strategies will increase your clients’ ability to focus and learn and improve their skill acquisition, resulting in notable functional outcomes in your treatment sessions. Special Educators and SLPs can also greatly benefit from this course content.

Learning Objectives:

TheraPeeds uses an interactive medium in all classes and the programs are structured to cover each of the learning outcomes in each segment of instruction. The conclusion of each segment involves a review and Q&A of the content covered to assess the acquisition of learning outcomes.

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the neurological process as well as the theories of neuroscience that govern Sensory Integration treatment.

  2. Identify the indicators of a modulation dysfunction using clinical observation skills, and demonstrate how these indicators affect each specific discipline.

  3. Demonstrate the use of specific manual treatment approaches to address sensory integration dysfunction.

  4. Identify appropriate sensory-based home and classroom strategies to promote ease and efficiency in carry-over of treatment strategies for parents and teachers.

Continuing Education Credits:

A certificate of completion will be issued at the end of the course, approved by the following sanctioning organizations:

This course has been approved for 15 Contact Hours / 1.5 CEUs by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). An overview of the process of sensory integration and current neuroscience theories, the practical implementation of these theories and their treatment integration.

Modulation Dysfunction: Treatment Implications

Learn to recognize modulation dysfunction and its specific impact on each discipline.

Treatment Strategies for Modulation Dysfunction

Learn specific hands-on interventions to treat individuals with modulation dysfunction.

Part Two

Treatment Session: The Child with Modulation Dysfunction

Observe the active active clinical reasoning of the treatment strategies discussed in the course as they are applied in a treatment session with a child with modulation dysfunction.

Sensory Diet

Learn how to design specific strategies for use at home and school, to increase carryover and functional skills for modulation and self-regulation dysfunctions.

Sensory Diet and Case Studies

Learn to diagnose discipline specific goals, write treatment plans, and designed sensory diets specific to treatment

Sensory Sleuths

Video case study and interactive group discussion. Therapist will observe and detect sensory dysfunction and then determine appropriate treatment strategies to address specific needs.

I just took my first course and I was thrilled! Practical Sense in SI delivered EXACTLY what it promised....and had the bonus of a superb, invigorating speaker who kept me alert for 2 days!
